Caliskatz 2008 Hella Hella (Pre) Contest

I knew I had to bail when the contest was scheduled to begin, so I was sure to at least check out the pre-contest warm up action. No disappointments as far as I'm concerned. Dudes were storming the 9 foot wall nonstop for at least an hour and a half. Tweaky little coping tricks, big airs, and special multitrick lines that only locals could pull off had me watching in amazement more than clicking pics. There were alot of big things going on in other sections of the park just out of range of my lense. Smiles all around from young and old, skaters and spectators. I'm sure it was a "Hella Hella" good show. Big props to the folks at Caliskatz. You guys put on a proper contest! Come back anytime.

Here'z a few. Check back later for more pics and video.

Shogo Kubo

When I was around seven, the older kids in the neighborhood were really into skating. I remember riding the schoolbus thumbing through one of their issues of Skateboard Magazine and seeing Shogo Kubo grinding a pool. I didn't know who he was or what skateboarding was all about, but I knew that was cool! As a tribute, I guess this will be my ever updating Shogo post. Check back from time to time and be enlightened!

Many a collector's "Holly Grail." Dogtown 1978? Shogo Kubo Model(graphic on top), Gull Wing Trucks, and (I think) Gull Wing Wheels.

October weekday skate.

Another session at Ripon's Skatepark. Young Chris La Croix (green shirt), the kids, and I enjoying the last bit of sunnyness before winter sets in. Well, it's not like we have snow or sheets of rain that would really keep us from skating, but the valley chill and black ice on the Northern facing walls make it unpleasant and sometimes seriously unsafe to skate. I hope the kids remember these days. I'm not enjoying myself for nothing.
